Biography

Fran Skiles - Artists - Pryor Fine Art

Fran Skiles (b. Cincinnati) divides her time between studios in West Virginia and Florida, where her multi-media art practice thrives. Initially starting with fabric and art quilting, her work has evolved into mixed media paintings and collages on paper. Skiles describes her art as deeply influenced by nature—the light, texture, shapes, and rhythm she encounters. "I don’t know the outcome when I start; the painting reveals itself as we get to know one another."

In the 1990s, before shifting to collage paintings, Skiles was recognized for her art quilts, which were exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her quilts were featured in prestigious venues such as Quilt National (Best of Show, '97), Visions, Quilt San Diego, the British Craft Council’s “American Art Quilt Exhibition,” Fiber Arts International, and Art Quilts: America of the Millennium in Strasbourg, France.
